Multi, multi gold medalist Michael Jung of Germany is retiring fischerChipmunk FRH at the age of 18.
There were no more worlds for Chip to conquer.
*He is doing very well, and it means a great deal to me to see him in such excellent condition,” said Michi, who has no need to push for more. After all, how much room do you have for medals on your walls?
“Olympic individual gold in Paris, two victories in Kentucky, team gold at the European Championships in Blenheim, and finally, individual gold at the World Championships in Aachen in front of a home crowd—what a journey,” Michi recounted.
“Naturally, Chip will remain with me, where he can now enjoy life even more out in the pasture. I am incredibly grateful for the time we’ve shared—a bond that certainly doesn’t end with his retirement from sport. A huge thank you also goes to the Fischer Group and the DOKR (German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports) for making it possible for me to ride such an exceptional horse and to achieve all these magnificent, unforgettable successes with him!”
A Hanoverian by Contendro, bred by the Meyer-Kulenkampff partnership, Chip was developed starting in 2013 by another German rider, Julia Krajewsk

A Hanoverian by Contendro, bred by the Meyer-Kulenkampff partnership was developed starting in 2013 by another German rider, Julia Krajewski. She was so proud of him in Aachen in the world championships last summer that she became teary-eyed.
Starting in 2019, Michi and Chip formed their partnership. In 2022, they secured team gold in Pratoni at the world championships, and in 2024, the pair won Olympic gold.
In 2025, Michi took the pressure off at the European Championships, being satisfied with a silver medal in the individual competition and team gold.
It was all in preparation for the ultimate goal — gold in Aachen this year at the world championships. It was the crowning achievement of their shared career.
Aachen is always something special. But a World Championship in Aachen is even more so. To head home with two medals and the title of World Champion is the ultimate.
From winning the Federal Championship (Bundeschampionat) for five-year-old eventing horses with Julia in 2013, to becoming an Olympic and World Championship legend, and finally, a contented retiree, that is the story of fischerChipmunk FRH,
His record with Michi included Team European Champion and individual silver medalist 2021, German Champion 2022: Team World Champion and winner of the five-star event in Kentucky 2023: Team European silver medalist 2024: Individual Olympic Champion and German Champion 2025: Team European Champion, individual silver medalist, and winner of the five-star event in Kentucky 2026: Individual World Champion and team silver medalist .
Those weighing in on the retirement news included Great Britain’s Laura Collett, who, with her horse London, was a perennial rival of Michi and Chip.
“I enjoyed all the battles,” she stated.
